Wikipedia talk:Article alerts/News
Before you make a news request, please make sure it meets these two criteria:
- Must of interest to more than two or three projects. If you can message all relevant projects and taskforces in 10 minutes or so, then do it by hand.
- Must not exceed 25-30 or so words. For measure, the above bullet point is 29 words long, while this one is 25 words long.

This is a repost of a comment left on WikiProject Punk Music's talk page.
"Subject was recently prodded. Discussion led to the prodder making the article acceptable (the original was a mess). The article could use some work, and this project seems the best place to go for the request." 74.69.39.11 (talk) 17:08, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Redundant
[edit]I suggest dropping any "Wikipedia Signpost is out." messages past the latest one. You might amend it to also link to old ones ala - (Signpost Archives). -- Banjeboi 11:56, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm aware of the situation. I don't have any solutions for this right now, as the situation is rather complex. This section can't be customized as much as the rest of the reports as it is human-maintained and transcluded "as is" on the alert reports (very likely that some projects like that recent past editions are listed, while a majority doesn't really care). I'm not sure if it the situation requires a solution either; it may be that this is a case where everyone has to put some water in their wine and live with a report which has minor annoyances to them in order to have maximum benefits for the community. - No worries, thanks for looking into it! -- Banjeboi 06:36, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Disabling this section
[edit]Any way to disable the display of news in the article alert template? I only want information specific to my project. If I want information about Wikipedia in general, I'd rather watchlist CENT or the Signpost or whatever.--Father Goose (talk) 08:16, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- See WT:Article alerts/Feature requests/Archive/Implemented#Turning off the other news section.. Make sure to check with others from your project though, as you might be removing a section a significant portion of the project members find useful. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:33, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- They can always revert me. Considering it's information not related to the project, I personally would expect those adding it to a project page to be the ones that should check with everyone else if it's wanted.
- Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work everyone has put into this bot, but I do not want features that do not relate to its stated core purpose.--Father Goose (talk) 20:41, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
News item suggestion
[edit]"Tools released for finding articles incorrectly tagged as needing an infobox or needing a photo."
That's probably going to be of use to all WikiProjects that use a needs-infobox / needs-photo parameter (quite a few I guess). - Jarry1250 (t, c) 16:37, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Approved I somehow unwatched this page so I didn't notice this message when you posted it. Sorry for the delay. (Uploaded)Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 18:11, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Clever!
[edit]Wow, you got me in a nice little Catch-22 here. This page says the edit must be relevant to two-three projects or more, or I should edit directly the page in question. But when I try to edit that page, I'm automatically directed here. How clever! So is there any way to add anything to the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Barack_Obama page, or is that what you're trying to avoid? Lampman (talk) 19:46, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Not quite sure I'm following you. These are notices that are displayed on several Wikiprojects. If you want to edit WikiProject Barrack Obama go right ahead. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 04:58, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Meet ups in Bristol
[edit]Suggestion - Organising WikiMeet ups in Bristol on a regular basis with the help of Wikimedia UK?
We have this event coming up in Bristol: http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Press_releases/Fundraising_summit
Would people be interested in using a small part of one of the evening gatherings to meet to consider getting a formal WikiMeet for Bristol off the ground?
Venue Watershed in Bristol: The Saturday evening session next week from 7.30pm - 9.30pm might be a place to start discussing the idea -
Can interested people let me know? Steve Virgin (talk) 16:16, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
